Both of these processes of adaption present their individual obstacles and satisfactions. Particularly interesting is the fact that Nicholls has had the chance to adapt his own novels for the screen in what might be the closest thing to a seamless transition from source material to screenplay. In contrast, however, his books deal with contemporary narratives, which sometimes differ in tone from the classics he loves.
